| The
Gnomes Points System (GPS) - an overview |
| |
| Background -
In September 2008, a series of polls were
undertaken on the GnOME's forum to canvass the
views of the kins membership on a variety of
topics. One of those polls asked the question "What
do you think of our current loot system?".
28% of people who responded thought it "could
be improved", while another 23% thought they
would "like to see something else". This meant
that the majority (just) of the kin were not
entirely happy with the existing loot rules.
The officers have listened and since then, spent
much, much time deliberating the merits of a
variety of different loot systems. Despite the
majority of members wanting to see a change, a
large number still liked elements of the
existing system, and we didn't want to lose
sight of that either. |

Objectives
- In designing the new loot system,
we had the following objectives for what it
needed to do in mind:
| |
It needed to be capable of rewarding
everyone fairly, regardless of how often
they choose to go raiding. |
| |
It
needed to remove the uncertainty of
knowing when players would acquire their
loot. |
| |
It
needed to recognise the extended time
spent by regular raiders, and reward
them appropriately, without
disadvantaging new or infrequent
raiders. |
| |
It
needed to steer clear of the daunting
complexities of a full-on DKP system. |
| |
It
needed to keep in mind the nature of our
kin. We did not want to see people
having to 'bid' against each other for
loot items. |
| |
It
needed to be capable of working in both
existing raids and future raids in Moria
and beyond. |

| So
what's this all about? - This site has been
set up to introduce the new loot system, to fully
explain how it works, to explain the reasons behind the
rules, and to keep the whole process as transparent to
everyone as possible. Of course, it will also be used to
show the loot rankings on a regular basis, so no more
confusion about who is eligible to roll as officers try
to remember 101 things during the actual raid, and no
more wondering when you'll be lucky enough to get that
elusive rare drop you've been waiting for, or the final
piece to your shiny armour set. |
